Presents the 5th Annual
“Halloween at the Park”
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 31, 2007 FROM 6:00PM-8:00PM
Our main goal is to provide a safe and fun environment for Halloween activities, along with an alternative to traditional Trick-or-Treating, while providing an opportunity for local businesses to get involved with the community. This is a FREE event for both participants and sponsors.
The event was started in 2003, as the brainchild of Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Renfroe. Being the first event of its kind, no one had any idea if, or how, successful the event would be the first time around. With a lot of support from other City departments and the local community, the first event was an overwhelming success. There were 28 businesses that participated and much to everyone’s surprise, we had approximately 5,000 participants. In year two, 40 businesses participated and attendance was estimated at 10,000 participants. Year three also had 40 businesses participate, with approximately 7,500 in attendance. Year four had 35 businesses participate with approximately 8,000 in attendance.
For the event, we set-up tables along the lighted portion of the walking trail at Berea City Park for sponsoring businesses to use for promotional items, decorations, candy, etc. Children 12 and under, with an adult, Trick-or Treat around the trail. The Berea Police Department will be on hand to promote safety, as well as the Berea Fire Department who will give rides on the Fire Trucks. There will also be a Haunted Hayride for both adults and children.
We will provide one (1) – eight (8) foot table and two (2) folding chairs for the first 40 businesses to respond. After the first 40, we will allow 15 additional businesses to register, but they MUST provide their own table; we will provide chairs.
ALL participating businesses MUST have and provide their own candy. Keep in mind that you will need at least one representative to staff your table. Staffers are welcome, and encouraged, to dress up in costume if they wish. You may have promotional items for your business, but they must be approved by the Parks Department in advance. We encourage each participating business to join in the fun by decorating their tables, since there will be a contest for the Best Decorated Table.
Businesses that do not wish to set up a table may still participate by making a candy or monetary donation to the City of Berea Parks Department for the event. We will create a banner with non-table sponsor logos.
